April 2026 Release Notes

1Retro on Android, faster syncing, and more emulators

  • release-notes

A lot landed this month. Here’s what’s new.

1Retro on Android

Let’s start with the biggest news: 1Retro is now available on Android.

If you play on a handheld or phone, your saves can sync alongside the rest of your library.

  • Pick a folder, the app does the rest. Point it at your saves directory and it figures out which games you have and which saves go with which.
  • Easy sign in. Sign in with a QR code and skip typing your email and password on a touchscreen. Scan the code from the desktop app and you’re in.
  • Background sync. When used, the app will watch for changes on your device and upload/download automatically.

This has been tested on my Ayn Thor, and bugs may remain. Please share your experience on our discord or forums.

Sync got a lot faster

If you have a big library, you’ll feel the difference. Sync cycles that used to crawl through hundreds of games now finish in seconds instead of minutes.

It’s also smarter.

  • It only syncs when your saves actually change.
  • It remembers what it’s seen before,, so the first sync after you reopen the app skips work it’s already done.
  • Lots of bug fixes and stability improvements ;) A pile of conflict edge cases were fixed. If two devices end up with the same save, 1Retro correctly notices and stops crying wolf. If you tell it to use the cloud version on a conflict, you actually get the cloud version now.

More emulators supported

  • RetroArch and Retrobat are now properly supported. Point 1Retro at the right folder and your saves come along for the ride.
  • MiSTer now figures out which console your saves came from more reliably. That matters because Star Fox on the Atari 2600 (yes, really) is nothing like Star Fox on the SNES.

Easier saving and browsing

  • Drag and drop a save onto the page to upload it. If 1Retro can’t figure out which game it belongs to, you’ll get a dialog to pick.
  • Preview mode in app will preview a sync without any changes, so you can peek at what’s in the cloud before pulling it down.

Other bits

  • Many layout fixes on phones to make the site look better.
  • You’ll see your account in the header when you’re signed in.
  • Resetting your password signs you out of every other device, as it should.

What’s next

More emulators on Android, and the slow grind of supporting more save formats, systems, and directory layouts. If something in your setup isn’t working, tell us on discord.
